Come Home to the Light

“Come Home to the Light”
Based on John 1:1–18

Scripture
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”
— John 1:14 (NIV)

If a message popped up on your phone saying,
“I know everything about you… I want to help you,”
you’d immediately ask, “Who is this?”
That’s the question John answers: Who is Jesus?

John 1 tells us three simple but massive truths:
  1. Jesus is God, come near.
“In the beginning was the Word… and the Word was God.”
    Meaning in life isn’t found in success, travel, or achievement;
it is found in a Person—Jesus, the One through whom all things were made.
  2. Jesus is light in our darkness.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Your sin, pain, confusion, and struggle are real—but they do not have the final word.
No amount of darkness can extinguish even a small light, and Jesus is the true light.
  3. Jesus’ invitation is grace, not “try harder.”
“To all who received him… he gave the right to become children of God.”
Not “to those who fixed themselves,” not “to those who became religious enough.”
His invitation is not “perform better,” but “come home.”

If you want to know what God is really like, John says: look at Jesus.
He is “full of grace and truth”—He knows everything about you (truth) and loves you completely (grace).

Reflection Question
Where in your life are you still living as if God were distant, disappointed, or impossible to please—instead of like Jesus, full of grace and truth?

Prayer
Jesus,
You are God come near, the light in my darkness.
I admit I cannot find meaning or healing on my own.
Show me what God is really like.
Shine your light into this area of my life: __________.
Help me receive you—not by earning, but by grace—
and live as a child of God.
Amen.

Simple Practice for Today
Pray once today:
“Jesus, show me what God is like.”
Then notice one way—through Scripture, a thought, a conversation, or a quiet conviction—that He answers. Capture it in a sentence or two in a journal or note on your phone.
